My name is Miss Jenny and I have been the year 2 teacher here at River Oaks Public School for 6 years. I received my Bachelor of Education (Primary) degree from Murdoch University and have taught at schools in Queensland, Australia, as well as at NZIS, an international school in Jakarta, Indonesia.
I am a married mother of three children and understand schools from the perspective of a parent as well as an educator. I grew up in Sydney, Australia and moved to Brisbane as a newlywed in 1994. In 2006 my husband received a promotion and we moved to Jakarta, Indonesia for 4 years, you can read about our family’s wonderful adventure here
I believe in embracing technology; students of today are growing up in a world far different from their parent’s childhood. In order for our students to be prepared to navigate this 21st century world, they must become literate in 21st century literacy's, including multicultural, media, information, emotional, ecological, financial and cyber literacy's.
I have integrated the seven survival skills advocated by Tony Wagner’s in his book, The Global Achievement Gap into our curriculum to focus on the 21st century skills of
These life skills are taught alongside a classical based education; that is, one that is grounded in literacy, numeracy, the sciences and the Arts. At the beginning of each term I will send home a newsletter outlining the class’s timetable and routine as well as the themes and topics we will be learning about. I will highlight one learning area per term on this web site so you can follow along with what your child is learning
I believe that positive parent-teacher relationships are necessary for maximum school success and I am always willing to speak to parents about any matter they feel is important for the happiness and education of their child. Throughout the year I will communicate with parents through notes, telephone calls, emails, report cards and parent-teacher conferences. You can call me at school, send me a note or contact me via email on [email protected]. I am available for conferences regarding your child’s progress from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 am, and 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. by appointment on school days.
Please note that this is a public space and as such we do not share any private or identifiable details of the students.
